Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq and France's Consul General discuss next Kurdistan Parliament election

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 6 February 2022 welcomed Mr. Olivier Decottignies, France’s Consul General in Kurdistan.

They discussed the latest political developments in Iraq and Kurdistan Region, the formation the new Iraqi Government and the challenges to the process, and the next Kurdistan Parliament elections. They also discussed the Kurdistan Region election law and the need to reactivate the Kurdistan High Electoral Commission, as well as the political parties’ differences in views on these issues.

Speaker Faiq said, “Holding elections is a completely democratic process, any steps to reactivate the electoral commission needs consensus among the political parties. I hope that the process will be carried out systematically, that no party will be marginalized and that all parties will be taken into account according to their size, so that eventually we achieve greater unity and harmony between all parties and ethnic and religious communities, as well as more progress for all."

"The political parties’ current disagreements and differences of opinion were anticipated, we already expressed our views on this issue before the election. I hope that through constructive dialogue we can reach an agreement," the Speaker said.
