Committees' recent meetings - 17 January 2022
Health, Environment and Consumer Rights Committee
17 January – The committee discussed the findings of their subcommittee on pharmaceuticals stickers [which should be proof that the medicines are registered and licensed in Kurdistan Region], and decided to submit their findings in writing to Parliament’s Presidency.
The committee read the letters, requests and complaints sent to them and responded as necessary.
Municipalities, Transport, Communication, Travel and Tourism Committee
16 January – The committee met with tourism experts and academics to hear their views and suggestions on improving the Bill on Tourism, which has had its first reading at a sitting.
The committee will continue to work on the bill taking the suggestions into account, so that it can have its second and third readings and vote at future Parliament sittings.
Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research Committee
16 January – The committee discussed the Education Bill that was submitted by the KRG. They decided to meet with experts and hold workshops to enrich the bill.
The committee is scheduled to meet with the KRG Education Ministry tomorrow to discuss the bill.
Martyrs, Genocide and Political Prisoners Committee
16 January – The committee conveyed their condolences on the passing of academic and international law expert Dr. Marif Omer Gul, who was one of the first to write about the genocide against the Kurds in the context of international law:
We are very saddened to learn of the passing of Professor Marif Omer Gul, the writer, poet and lawyer who always felt the pain and suffering of his people. Wherever he was, he did not hesitate to serve our people. He contributed to introducing the genocide against our people to the world through his writing and acadamic work.
We express our condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace.
