Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq welcomes Head of Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate Azad Hamadamin

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 30 January 2022 met with the Head of the Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate, Azad Hamadamin, and the Deputy Head Bzhar Hakim.

They discussed the state of journalism in the Kurdistan Region, the challenges to journalists created by social media.

Speaker Faiq stressed that media freedom and freedom of expression are two main principles that should be respected, while at the same time the media should respect the freedom of the individual and carry out their work professionally and impartially by respecting the public's right to privacy and freedom and their dignity and reputation.

Mr. Hamadamin and Mr. Hakim gave their views on the state of journalism in the Kurdistan Region and the obstacles and challenges that lead to journalism that is far from media ethics and principles.

Mr. Hamdamin said, "The Journalists Syndicate will hold a large conference on April 22nd, Kurdish Journalism Day, with the participation of the International Federation of Journalists, international experts and academics.”

Speaker Faiq commended the syndicate for their tireless work and wished them continued success.
