Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami welcomes French Senate's France-Iraq Friendship Group
Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami on 9 June 2022 welcomed members of the French Senate’s France-Iraq Friendship Group, led by the Group’s President, Senator Nicole Duranton.
They discussed political developments in Iraq and the wider region, the next Kurdistan Parliament election and strengthening relations between the Kurdistan parliament and the French Senate.
Deputy Speaker Hawrami said, “We are proud of our close historic friendship with France. At crucial moments, France supported the people of Kurdistan and Kurdistan Region.”
They discussed the ongoing Iraqi Government formation process and the political, security, and economic situation in Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
Deputy Speaker Hawrami stressed the importance of protecting Kurdistan Region’s peaceful coexistence between the different ethnic and religious component communities.
Senator Duranton expressed France’s solidarity with the Kurdistan Region in the aftermath of yesterday’s drone attack in Erbil, and she wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Dr. Hawrami and the senators also discussed strengthening parliamentary ties and bilateral relations in several areas, including agriculture and higher education.
The French Senate delegation was accompanied by Consul General Olivier Decottignies and comprised the Friendship Group's Vice-President Claude Kern and members Else Joseph and Remy Feraud.
