Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami welcomes France’s Consul General Olivier Decottignies

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami on 17 March 2022 welcomed France’s Consul General Olivier Decottignies. They discussed the next Kurdistan Parliament election and the political and security situation in Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami thanked the Government of France for expressing its support for Kurdistan Region in the wake of the 13 March missile attacks from Iran on Erbil.

Dr. Hawrami and Consul General Decottignies exchanged views on the discussions between political parties on the next Kurdistan Parliament election and on renewing the mandate of the Kurdistan High Electoral Commission.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami said that holding the election on time is important for the democratic process in Kurdistan Region.

He said that in order to hold the election on time, Parliament's priority must be to renew the mandate of the electoral commission. The commission has written to Parliament three times to ask them to decide on the commission's mandate, which is Parliament's responsibility.

They also discussed the Iraqi government formation process and the latest political developments.
