Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami welcomes US Consulate General Chief of Political and Economic Affairs Ms. Dew Tiantawach

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami on 17 March 2022 met with Ms. Dew Tiantawach, the US Consulate General's Chief of Political and Economic Affairs, and Mr. Joshua Lewis, Political and Economic Officer. They discussed the next Kurdistan Parliament election and the political and security situation in Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami thanked the US for expressing their support for Kurdistan Region in the wake of the 13 March missile attacks from Iran on the city of Erbil.

Dr. Hawrami briefed Ms. Tiantawach and Mr. Lewis on the discussions between political parties on the next Kurdistan Parliament election and on renewing the mandate of the Kurdistan High Electoral Commission.

He said that in order to hold the election on time, Parliament's priority must be to renew the mandate of the electoral commission. The commission has written to Parliament three times to ask them to decide on the commission's mandate, which is Parliament's responsibility.

They also discussed the Iraqi government formation process and the latest political developments.
