Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq meets with Italy’s Consul Michele Camerota

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 29 March 2022 welcomed Michele Camerota, Italy's Consul in the Kurdistan Region.

Speaker Faiq and Consul Camerota discussed the latest political developments in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, and the challenges to the process of holding the next Kurdistan Parliament election.

Speaker Faiq reiterated that the compromise and mutual understanding are key to solving all the disagreements, and said she hopes that the political parties will take appropriate steps that pave the way for an agreement.

Dr. Faiq outlined Parliament's work in this current fifth term and the importance of some of the laws that have been passed. She said, “The work in this fifth term of the Kurdistan Parliament focused on strengthening the sectors of industry, agriculture, tourism and trade, to reduce Kurdistan Region’s reliance on the energy and natural resources sector.”

The Parliament Speaker thanked Italy and its forces in the international coalition for their assistance to the Kurdistan Region and the Peshmerga in the fight against ISIS.

Consul Camerota thanked the Speaker, and both emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations.
