Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami meets with UK Consul General Mr. David Hunt

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami on 11 May 2022 welcomed the UK’s Consul General in Kurdistan Region, Mr. David Hunt.

They discussed the political situation in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq and the next Kurdistan Parliament election.

Dr. Hawrami emphasized the need for a transparent and successful election to be held.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami also spoke about the issues of reactivating the electoral commission and reviewing the election law through the proper legislative procedures.

He said, "There are efforts to help the parliamentary parties reach an agreement on continuing parliamentary business, under Parliament’s Internal Rules of Procedure.”

Dr. Hawrami added, "It is important that while the parliamentary parties work on reaching an agreement on these political and national issues, Parliament should not cease to carry out its legislative and institutional responsibilities of law-making, scrutiny and monitoring, and of raising the concerns of the public.”
