Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami opens Dr. Sherko Baban Hall at Salahaddin University's College of Engineering

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami on 13 October 2022 opened a new hall at Salahaddin University’s Engineering College, named after the late Dr. Sherko Baban, the academic, writer and linguist.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami cut the ribbon of the new room, together with the President of Salahaddin University Dr. Kamaran Younis Mohammadamin, the Dean of the College of Engineering Professor Nazhad Ahmad Hussein, the late Dr. Sherko Baban’s family, and teachers and students.

The Dr. Sherko Baban Hall will be used for academic thesis discussions. The late professor’s family donated 54 of his books, housed in the hall, for the benefit of the university’s students.

Dr. Sherko Baban passed away in 2021. He was a professor of the university's college of engineering. He gained his PhD in metallurgy in France, and also authored many books on Kurdish language and grammar. He spoke Kurdish, English, French and Arabic.
