Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq congratulates Dr. Latif Rashid on his election as President of Iraq

Dr. Latif Rashid, President-elect of Iraq,

I warmly congratulate you on winning the confidence of the Iraqi House of Representatives. I hope that this democratic procedure marks a new beginning for the entire political process in Iraq, and that the other constitutional steps will follow to form a new cabinet as soon as possible.

The retention of this position in the interests of the Kurdistani people, by a veteran of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, as a constitutional right based on the principle of political partnership in Iraq, is gladdening and clearly signals the political parties’ and forces’ true desire for the development of democracy and coexistence based on constitutional principles.

I hope that this victory will strengthen unity and solidarity and help to make progress in bringing together different views, and that you will become a catalyst for greater solidarity and for a unified national discourse, following the path forged by our great leader, the late President Mam Jalal Talabani.
