Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq welcomes German Parliament Defence Committee delegation

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 26 October 2022 welcomed a cross-party delegation from the German Federal Parliament’s Defence Committee, led by MP Ms. Sara Nanni.

The Kurdistani MPs appreciated the German Parliament’s decision to extend the mandate of German forces as part of the International Coalition against ISIS and for the stabilization of affected areas.

Speaker Faiq said, “We thank the people and nation of Germany for their practical and logistical support for the Peshmerga forces in their fight against ISIS terrorists. Our people are loyal and faithful to friends who have been with us through hard times. On behalf of the people, we thank you.”

The Parliament Speaker appreciated the important role of German military advisors in training Peshmerga forces, military healthcare and establishing weapons and vehicle repair facilities.

On climate change and the environment, Speaker Faiq explained the important laws that have been passed or amended to protect the environment and manage water resources.

The German Parliament Defence Committee delegation reaffirmed Germany’s support for the Peshmerga forces and valued the Peshmerga’s vital role in defeating ISIS. They commended the significant progress seen in the Kurdistan Region.

They also discussed strengthening relations between their nations, particularly by increasing parliamentary ties and exchanges.

The chairs and members of several Kurdistan Parliament standing committees participated in the meeting.
