Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq welcomes UK Ambassador to Iraq Mark Bryson-Richardson
Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 18 October 2022 welcomed the UK’s Ambassador to Iraq Mark Bryson-Richardson, and his delegation.
At the meeting which was by the UK’s Consul General in Erbil Mr. David Hunt, discussions were on current issues including the next Kurdistan Parliament election, human rights and civil liberties. Speaker Faiq explained the challenges and obstacles that have delayed the election.
Regarding the issue of human rights and general freedoms, Dr. Rewaz Faiq, the importance of the laws passed in the Kurdistan Parliament to protect freedom of the press, human rights and combating violence against families and children to the guest delegation.
On human rights and civil liberties, Dr. Faiq highlighted the important laws passed by the Kurdistan Parliament to protect media freedom and human rights and to combat violence against women and children.
The Speaker gave an overview of Parliament’s recent sittings for the second reading of the Education and Training Bill, and the bills that will be scheduled for reading in this legislative session, including the Labour Bill and a private sector retirement and pensions bill, both of which will help to incentivize and support private sector employment.
