Parliament holds second reading of the title and first article of the Bill on Education and Training

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 22 September 2022 opened the sitting for the second reading of the title and first article of the Bill on Education and Training, a sweeping bill that aims to organize and overhaul education. The KRG Minister for Education Alan Hama Saeed attended the sitting.

Alongside Speaker Faiq were Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami and Secretary Muna Kahveci. The Minister for the Region for Parliament Affairs, Dr. Vala Farid, also attended alongside Education Minister Alan Hama Saeed.

Parliament’s Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research Committee read the title and first articl of the bill, which consists of 48 paragraphs. MPs gave their comments and suggestions on the title and details of the first article. The MPs’ suggestions will be included in the bill’s voting report at a future sitting. The Education Committee and Minister Alan Hama Saeed responded to some comments to clarify certain points.

The Education Bill consists of 181 articles and its purpose is to organize different areas of education and training, based on modern values that lay the foundations for educated, aware, democratic, innovative, humane Kurdistani individuals, and also to develop education and training in the Kurdistan Region so that education advances the abilities and prosperity of individuals and society, strengthens national identity and enriches the culture of the people of Kurdistan.
