Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on welcomes Netherlands’ Human Rights Ambassador Bahia Tahzib-Lie

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 1 February 2023 welcomed the Netherlands’ Ambassador for Human Rights Bahia Tahzib-Lie, and her delegation.

Human Rights Ambassador Tahzib-Lie was accompanied by Consul General Jaco Beerends.

Speaker Faiq and Ambassador Tahzib-Lie discussed at length the state of human rights in Iraq and Kurdistan Region, as well as women’s rights and empowerment and press freedom.

Speaker Faiq highlighted the many important laws passed by the Kurdistan Parliament to defend journalists and women's rights.

The Speaker gave her views on the current state of human rights and women's rights in Iraq and the wider region, including peaceful coexistence between different communities and mutual acceptance of differences.

Dr. Faiq and Ms. Tahzib-Lie focused on ways to advance human rights, civil liberties and women’s rights.
