Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq welcomes presidents of Halabja and Raparin universities and Asuda NGO

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 16 January 2023 welcomed the President of Halabja University Dr. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah, the President of Raparin University Dr. Paiman Ramazan, and representatives of Asuda NGO.

 Speaker Faiq, the university heads and Asuda NGO, which advocates for gender equality and eliminating violence against women, the current situation in universities as well as the important work of civil society organizations. Dr. Faiq commended female academics, university professors and civil society activists for their courage and success.

Speaker Faiq said, “Women in various institutions and in wider society are continuously and openly defending human rights generally as well as civil rights and social equality between men and women. That’s why the Kurdistan Parliament will fully support you in any area of your work that is needed, particularly in terms of legislation and Parliament’s duties.”

Dr. Faiq continued, “We ask everyone to protect societal peace above all, and to prevent women’s decades-old struggle from being confused or equated with ideas and expressions that have nothing to do with Kurdistani women’s aspirations.”

The university presidents and Asuda NGO gave their views on the current situation in Kurdistan Region, and the deterioration of Kurdish media. They agreed with Speaker Faiq that protecting societal peace should be at the forefront of their work. They thanked the Speaker for her stance and her continued support.
