Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq meets with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 2 March 2023 met with the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres during his visit to Kurdistan Region.

They discussed the latest political developments in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in general, as well as the next Kurdistan Parliament elections, human rights and freedom of expression.

The Parliament Speaker thanked Secretary-General Guterres for his visit to the Kurdistan Region and for closely monitoring the state of human rights, freedom of expression and democracy in general. They both stressed the need for dialogue and democratic means to reach mutual understanding and resolve the issues between Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi Federal Government.

Speaker Faiq said, “The Kurdistan Parliament attaches great importance to the rapprochement between the political parties and is closely monitoring the progress of their negotiations."

Dr. Faiq added, “The Kurdistan Parliament values the UN’s ongoing assistance to the Kurdistan Region at many different stages."

The Speaker thanked Secretary-General Guterres for his visit to the Kurdistan Region and for closely monitoring the state of human rights, freedom of expression and democracy.
