Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami meets with Head of UNAMI Regional Office Mr. Ricardo Rodriguez

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami on 21 May 2023 met with Mr. Ricardo Rodriguez, the Head of the UNAMI Office in the Kurdistan Region, with Ms. Sylvie Blanchier, Electoral Affairs Officer, and Mr. Lennart Nikolai Political Officer. They discussed the next Parliament elections and the current political situation.

Dr. Hawrami explained the steps taken and meetings in Parliament over many months to find common ground and achieve compromises on all the outstanding election issues.

The Deputy Speaker said that elections should be held on the date set by Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, the mandate of the Kurdistan High Election Commission should be renewed and the first reading should be held of all the bills on amendments to the Election Law.

Dr. Hawrami asked UNAMI and the international community to observe and closely monitor the elections, which he said are the public's civil and political right.
