Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq and foreign consuls and representatives discuss latest developments on the Parliament elections

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 2 May 2023 welcomed the representatives of the EU and some member states, and of the US, UK and Canada in Erbil.

Their meeting covered the latest developments on the next Kurdistan Parliament elections.

Speaker Faiq thanked the consuls and representatives for supporting the Kurdistan Parliament’s efforts to achieve a rapprochement between the parties.

The Speaker gave the foreign representatives an overview of the steps towards the reactivation of the mandate of the Kurdistan High Election and Referendum Commission and amendments to the Election Law. She clarified her views on the political parties’ differences on some points, and hoped that they can overcome all the obstacles to the process in a democratic manner and reach a final agreement at the earliest opportunity.

The representatives and consuls of the EU, US and Canada thanked the Parliament Speaker for presenting the information and said they hope that the parties can soon reach a conclusive agreement on all the points.
