Speaker Rewaz Faiq's Press Office: We condemn in strongest terms the armed attack on MP Karwan Gazneyi

The Press Office of Dr. Rewaz Faiq, Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament, issued this statement regarding the shooting of Karwan Gazneyi (PUK), a Member of the Kurdistan Parliament:

Last night the Member of the Kurdistan Parliament Mr. Karwan Gazneyi who was travelling from Slemani on his way to Erbil, was shot at by unknown armed assailants at the Topzawa checkpoint in Koya, after tensions erupted.

We condemn in the strongest terms the attack on Karwan Gazneyi. We call on the security services to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice, to uphold the rule of law and to protect the sovereignty of checkpoints, whose duty is to serve the public before protecting the lives of this parliamentarian and any other citizen.
