The Kurdistan Parliament Holds First Session of Its Sixth Term
Erbil, 2 December 2024 – The Kurdistan Parliament convened the first session of its sixth term under the chairmanship of Ardalan Mohammed Sarspi, Head of the Kurdistan Parliament's Divan. The session, marking the beginning of the first autumn term, was attended by a significant number of consuls and representatives from various countries in the Kurdistan Region.
The proceedings commenced with the recitation of several verses from the Holy Quran, followed by a moment of silence and the playing of the national anthem, Ay Raqib, in honor of the martyrs of Kurdistan.
In accordance with Article 11(2) and Article 12(1) of the Parliament's Rules of Procedure, Mohammed Sulaiman Mohammed, the oldest elected candidate, was invited to chair the session. During the meeting, newly elected members of the sixth term took the parliamentary oath individually, in alphabetical order, and officially assumed their duties as Members of Parliament.
Following the swearing-in ceremony, the session proceeded to address the nomination process for the posts of Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and Secretary of the Parliament, as stipulated in Article 14 of the Rules of Procedure.
However, due to the absence of the required legal quorum, the session was temporarily adjourned for a recess. Upon resumption, the quorum was not met, leading to the adjournment of the session once again.
